What will be assessed?
Neuropsychological evaluation can assess a number of cognitive areas including:
- Processing speed
- Visual perceptual ability
- Learning and memory
- Executive functions (e.g. planning/organisation, attentional switching, impulse control)
Assessment of cognitive areas is dependent upon:
- The specific referral question
- Any questions you or your doctor may have
- Specific health complaints
- Any reported symptoms
- Observations made by your clinical neuropsychologist

Why should I refer my patient to Jurmaine Health?
We are more than just Neuropsychologists – we are also contributors and leaders in the community, particularly in the areas of ageing, concussion, forensic/medico-legal, cultural and linguistic diversity (CALD) and LGBTI. This means we are more in touch with the community and issues affecting them, and so can provide a comprehensive and well-rounded assessment and information about your brain health.
Can I book an appointment myself, or do I need a referral?
You can book an appointment yourself – no referral is needed. Simply call our office to make a booking that suits your schedule.

What are the location options for assessments?
If you can’t make it to any of our 4 sites in Preston, Melbourne CBD, Dandenong and Ballarat, we also provide off-site assessments – where we can visit you at your home or office. Usually, there is no charge involved if the site is within 100km of Melbourne CBD.
Does Medicare cover your services? Can I claim your services on my private health cover?
Unfortunately, Neuropsychology Assessments are still considered a specialist service, and are not covered by Medicare or Private Health. However, it may be possible to claim Psychological and Cognitive Rehabilitation as well as Counselling/Therapy with Private Health Insurance, depending on your cover.
